2008.4.13 @ 09:08 Strong oak, hops, and caramel body overwhelmed my tastebuds. I think I would have enjoyed this more if any one of those three flavors had been dialed back a notch or two. All of them at full bore, though, just sent my tongue into shock. Your beer geek mileage may vary. ;) |

2008.5.17 @ 15:16 Pours a rich clear copper color with a thin light tan head. Retention is ok with some lace. Aroma is unique and fairly powerful. Some floral notes and typical IPA features. More interesting were the oak tones. Sweet vanilla with the balanced hop/malt background, really quite nice. Taste is spot on. Incredibly unique and exactly what I wanted it to be. Sweet vanilla, caramel, toffee, and candy sugar. Hops are not the showcase, but strangely fantastic anyway. Mouthfeel is full bodied with subtle carbonation. It was a bit syrupy, but the whole beer just worked for me. Drinkability is moderate. Flavors are easily consumed, but more than 12 oz. is questionalb.e, expecially at 10% ABV. |
