Finer Points of "Markdown"

bryan 2007.10.28 @ 14:29

I realize that just linking to the Markdown documentation is not a good way to encourage people to learn how to use it. So, to help everyone be as expressive as they want to be on BeerRiot, I thought I'd make this post to demonstrate how to push your comments beyond plain text.

So, to see how the formatting in this post is done, click the "Reply..." link on it. the reply form will be pre-filled with the Markdown text of this post, with each line quoted. If you were to remove the ">" at the start of each line, you'd have exactly the text I typed to make this post look the way it does.

So, without further ado

  • I just started a list with this line.
  • Now I'm continuing the list, and also linking to the front page.
  • I can add emphasis to any level I wish.

Quoting to multiple levels just requires more ">" at the start, just like email. In fact, Markdown is really designed to make simple HTML from some common email habits that people already have.

Anything else people think should be demonstrated here?
