Food for Beer Lovers

2007.11.25 @ 16:24 If you're near Escondido, CA, visit the Stone Brewing Co. for dinner at the Stone World Bistro. Yes, the beer is great, and we tasted all the Stone beers on tap, but the food alone is worth a visit! I wholeheartedly subscribe to their food philosophy: http://www.stoneworldbistro.com/philosophy.htm We found the restaurant via the Slow Food website; the brewery and restaurant are hidden away on the outskirts of an office park, and you'd never guess what's inside by looking at the outside. There were some traditional "beer foods" like burgers and onion rings (the size of donuts!) on the menu, but there were also things like barbecued duck tacos, wild mushroom soup, and smoked porter cheesecake. We took my husband's parents there for dinner on our way to the San Diego airport, and it may have been the best meal of our trip! Next time, we'll plan better, so that we can take the brewery tour before or after dinner. Hooray for Stone, for serving wonderful food, in a wonderful atmosphere - great for the people, and great for the beer! Now that we're back in the Northeast...any other recommendations for breweries (or restaurants with great taps) serving food with a local/organic/sustainable focus? I may be a beer lover, but I'm also a foodie - and we need something to eat with our beer! |
