New: Lists, Agreements

New: Lists

Something I've heard a few times in the last month is, "What do I do with this beer on my Top list that I'm probably never going to get to try?" My response has been to just shrug it, but a friend rejected that idea.

"Some of these beers I'm interested in, some I'm not - I don't want them all in one pile. And in either case, I don't want to give an opinion (shrug or otherwise) on them." And so, three lists were born.

On every beer page, you'll now find a panel with three checkboxes - Interests, No-interest, and Temp. By checking these, you can add the beer to any of these lists. On the Top and Lists pages, you'll find similar checkboxes to indicate whether you want to include beers from each of those lists in that view.

So, now you can save shrug for those beers you have actually tried, and just don't have a strong feeling about. Use the three new lists for beers you haven't tried yet.

New: Agreements

But wait, lists aren't the only new thing! I've also heard the call of the community wanting to know how others are voting. While I feel it's against the spirit of BeerRiot to show how each of you has voted on each beer, I do understand that you'd like to know how likely you are to agree with someone after reading a comment they have made.

Thus, when you're logged in, you'll now see an Agreement panel on any user page for a member that has voted on some of the same beers as you. That panel will show a percentage giving an indication of how likely you are to agree with that member.

I've used a slightly different algorithm for these Agreement panels than I do for computing beer scores (to help prevent people using them to abuse the system), so if they seem off to you don't get too worried.

Send Me Feedback!

If you read back through these news stories, I think you'll find that many of the features of BeerRiot are direct results of member feedback. If you have a feature you'd like to see, or you think some feature could be done better, please sling me an email (webmaster@). Or, if you're a Facebooker, join the discussion or write a review on the app's About page.

If you happen to just really like BeerRiot, I'm happy to hear that too. ;)
