Monk's Cafe Flemish Sour Ale 2007.9.26 @ 19:50

This beer, brewed in Belgium specifically for Monk's Cafe in Philladelphia is a gem. Monk's Cafe is the only place in the world that has this beer on tap, however bottles are sold to better beer stores around America.

Black and Tan 2007.12.1 @ 10:35

The black and tan is alright. It is a blend of Yuengling's Porter and Premium beers. If you want a winner try the Porter.

Cave Creek Chili Beer 2007.12.1 @ 10:40

Pours a pale golden color with excellent clarity. I got a two finger foamy head with an aggressive pour. Terrible retention and no lacing.

The aroma is...well...seemingly appropriate for a chili beer. The chili in the nose definitely dominates. It just screams spicey. But definitely chili peppers, and some sweet pale malt is in the distance. It's faint, but in there.

The taste is not so good. A sort of skunky lager with some stale pale malt and a huge kick of jalepenos. It's slightly sweet, but the spice just overwhelms the palate and lingers in the back of your throat. Very unpleasant.

Mouthfeel is thin and carbonation is fairly low.

Drinkability is incredibly low. The flavor of this beer is not very good, and it is definitely overwhelming. I can't see sitting down and drinking the whole bottle comfortably. I have used it as a marinade in the past and that seems to work just fine.

Wostyntje 2007.12.2 @ 23:11

Brewed with mustard seed.

Rodenbach 2007.12.6 @ 08:43

This Flemish sour is similar to the famous Grand Cru. However, this beer is a blend of three parts fresh ale and one part oak aged ale. It is not as tart as Grand Cru, but still a great beer.

Mephistopheles Stout 2007.12.7 @ 23:28

This stout is amazing. It's a true beer heavyweight at 16.03% ABV. If you like a good stout beer, this is it.

Yuengling Traditional Lager 2007.12.8 @ 11:21

A great beer, and an American Icon. Go to any bar in Pennsylvania and ask for a lager, this is what you'll get. Nice amber color, full bodied, and I think some nuttiness. Additionally, Yuengling was the first brewery in America to send a truck full of beer to the White House when prohibition was repealed. The interesting thing is it was sent the day after the repeal (which means they were brewing during prohibition).

Bourbon County Stout 2007.12.8 @ 23:19

Pours black and completely opaque. A thin chocolate colored head sits on top and quickly dissipates leaving nothing behind.

The aroma is awesome. Huge notes of bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, oak, and a touch of smoke. Really enticing.

The taste on this beer is phenomenal. Again, big notes of bourbon really set the beer off. Huge notes of chocolate, coffee, toasted coconut, oak, vanilla, and even a touch of smoke. I'm so happy this finally hit shelves here because I forgot how much I love this beer! It finishes off with a nice alcohol warmth in the chest, but the booziness is really relaxed as you sip.

Mouthfeel is full bodied, thick, and slightly creamy. Carbonation is very low, producing more of a still mouthfeel and it's really appropriate.

Drinkability is remarkably high for a beer of this stature. The alcohol us mellowed enough to easily be enjoyed. Although, good luck taking more than one in a sitting. It's a monster at 13% ABV.

Abbey 2007.12.10 @ 16:57

This is a cool beer. It's not really true to the style, but a nice take on it. There are some great flavors present, including cherry and banana.

Wells Banana Bread Beer 2007.12.10 @ 17:02

Pretty close to banana bread, and it's actually good.

Samuel Adams Hallertau Imperial Pilsner 2007.12.10 @ 17:13

Pours a cloudy amber/orange color with a large three finger slightly yellowed head. Great retention and some nice lacing.

The aroma is awesome. Great citrusy hops, kind of earthy, floral, with some caramel malting as well.

Taste is nice. Citrusy hops giving a really bitter grapefruit, kind of earthy, slightly metallic, with a nice caramel finish. Moderately bitter as well. Insane for an Imperial Pils, could easily be mistaken for an IPA/DIPA.

Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, slightly syrupy, and nicely carbonated.

Drinkability is moderate. Moderately high alcohol pulls this one back a bit, but it's hidden very well, and the flavors are just great making for a truly nice experience.

Harvest Moon Pumpkin Ale 2007.12.11 @ 15:58

Not a whole lot going on here. This is probably one of my least favorite pumpkin's. It's thin, weak mouthfeel, lacking spice and pumpkin in the nose, and the taste just isn't quite there. Worth a try though.

Hitachino Nest White Ale 2007.12.11 @ 16:45

One of the best white ale's I've had. I would recommend it.

Sahti 2007.12.16 @ 22:21

A great beer, found it at the Goose Island brew pub on Clyborn in Chicago.

Midway IPA 2007.12.16 @ 22:22

This beer is from the brewers cask selection. I found it on tap at the brew pub in Chicago on Clyborn. The brewery rotates which cask they serve each night and I was lucky enough to have the Midway IPA.
