Shock Top Belgian White 2008.2.29 @ 19:58

I ordered this beer due to the lack of selection at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia. I noticed that the label indicated it was a Belgian white style which one of my favorites. After the bartender poured it I looked at the bottle to learn more about it. I was dismayed to learn that is was brewed by Anheuser-Busch. This beer lacks any real depth of flavor or spiciness that you would normally associate with the indicated style. It is far too clear, without the typical hazy opacity Belgian whites normally exhibit. Finally, it has a distinctive aftertaste that doesn't sit well with me. I can't recommend this beer to a Belgian white fan. Needless to say after finishing that beer I switched back to red wine.

A very nice, almost fruity ale with light hop flavor. It has hints of apricot but is not dominated by it. It is very easy to drink and I'm always happy when I find it on the menu. I also love the logo.

Hop Wallop 2008.2.29 @ 21:18

Hops rule the day with this beer just as the name implies. I believe the wallop portion comes from the feeling you get if you have one too many (8.5% ABV). Very floral and almost fruity. If you have to opportunity to taste it cask-conditioned, do not hesitate to try it. I've had it bottled and from the tap and both are great. But from the cask is the way to go if you have the option. I swear looking at it in the light reveals a slightly green tinge, but maybe it's just the hops talking...

HopDevil Ale 2008.2.29 @ 21:24

The first IPA I ever experienced and my gateway into the world of great beers. This beer got me instantly hooked on the style. It has a wonderful hop bitterness. A great beer to have from the cask too.

Whirlwind Wit 2008.2.29 @ 21:39

An extremely refreshing Belgian style wheat beer. Hazy and spicy and perfect for a summer day. One of my favorite witbiers.

Midnight Wit 2008.2.29 @ 21:40

This may be my favorite Belgian style wheat beer (Victory Whirlwind Wit is close). There is something unique about this beer when compared to the other witbiers that I've sampled. I'll have to update my comments if I can figure it out. It has the typical citrus aroma and hazy color indicative of the style.

Saison 2008.2.29 @ 21:46

I really love this beer. It is floral and grassy with a noticeable hop presence up front. Light mouth feel and a smooth finish.
